What does acupuncture do?
Meridians run like energy currents throughout the body. When blockage in one part of a meridian occurs, it impedes the flow in others. Acupuncture removes the blockage and revives the usual flow though the meridians, restoring Qi and helping the body’s internal organs with imbalances. Acupuncture’s scientific rationale is that inserting needles at acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system, releasing chemicals which either alleviate pain or affect the body’s internal regulating system.
Risks and side effects
Because disposable needles are sterilised and packed individually, there is no risk of infection. After the treatment an individual’s symptoms can intensify for a short time. Most often a period of relaxation is experienced.
Coverage
While acupuncture is not covered by OHIP, it is however covered by many health care plans (either partially or fully). Please check your health plan to determine if your are covered.
Frequency of treatments
It depends on each individual’s case. The effect sometimes is quite dramatic and the patient will only need one or two treatments. Sometimes the treatment is ongoing.
A Person’s health is affected by the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical aspects of life.

Hi Jose,
Thank you very much for your questions and interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine!
I have treated all of the issues that you mentioned. Generally speaking, the effectiveness of the treatments depends on age, the duration and severity of the disorder, and what your personal body response is to specific treatments.
In order to treat internal disorders, we first need to have an initial consultation. This is a straightforward process where I will examine you, and then provide a diagnosis according to TCM methods. Following the consultation, we can put together a treatment plan catered to you.
I hope that this has been helpful and shed some light on your concerns. Please do not hesitate at all to call me if you need me to explain the treatment methods in greater detail or if you any have further questions.
I had torn rotator cuff surgery on 6th Mar. I am receiving post op physio treatment, I’m wondering if acupuncture would be helpful dealing with post op pain. I do not have a lot of pain during the day except when I get physio treatment that day but when I go to bed it really aches a lot. Would acupuncture be able to help me.Thank you.
Yes, acupuncture usually helps to reduce all kind of pain. It will depend on how severe the pain is, how your body responses to the treatment, and it might only require a few treatments. A lot of people have acupuncture coverage through work now. I would like to do my best to help you!
Hi! Rong
On March I started to have numbness on both hands, few weeks after worsen.
My fingers feel cold I don’t have sensitivity on them, my hands are numb, my arms are numb and heavy. The neurology told my operation is the only way to alleviate the discomfort. In your experience as a Chinese dr what do I have?
Acupuncture will help me? Thank you for your time and help!
Hi Nina,
Thank you for writing to me. Unfortunately there is not enough information for me to give you a proper diagnosis. What was the diagnosis you received from the neurologist (carpal tunnel syndrome, cyst, tumor, etc) that is causing pressure on your nerves? Acupuncture can normally help for mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome.
Please give me a call at 519.822.5555 to let me know more information.
Hi Rong,
I am currently pregnant with my second child. I developed a rare liver disease with my first child that’s called cholestasis in pregnancy. I am beginning to develop symptoms again, with this pregnancy and would like to try a natural route to manage my symptoms. basically the symptoms i have are extreme itching that usually gets worse at night and upper right quadrant pain (located where the liver is.)
i have been taking milk thistle and dandelion root but, am not sure what a safe amount is while pregnant.
if you could please let me know if you can help me, it’d be greatly appreciated!
I am currently 22 weeks pregnant.
thanks,
jenna
Hi Jenna,
Thank you for your question! ICP can be treated using herbs or acupuncture, depending on the TCM diagnosis.
How severe was it with your first pregnancy? Did you deliver a healthy baby after 37 weeks? In TCM it may be caused by dampness and heat in the body.
Please call me for further information at 519-822-5555
All the best,

Hi Rong,
I’ve been experiencing very severe headaches when I work out for the past month or so.
It seems to be related to my heart rate. When my heart rate goes up I almost immediately get a headache up the back of my head. I’ve been working with a Personal Trainer for the past six weeks and he feels it could be a muscular issue in the neck or shoulders or another condition that may be reducing blood flow.
Is this something that may be treatable with Acupuncture?
Scott
Hi Scott,
The muscles in your neck could be causing the problem, especially if you are working in front of the computer most of the time and are experiencing tightness in your neck and shoulders.
Acupuncture works well to reduce muscle tension – I will ask more questions at the initial consultation to find out if there are other possible causes.
For now, try to warm up longer and stretch the muscles in your neck and shoulders before the work out.
Please call me at 519-822-5555, and we can set up a consultation.
Enjoy your weekend,
Rong
Hi Rong,
I have been suffering from plantar fascist is for over a year. I’ve had custom orthotics made and have had cortezone injections in both feet (very painful) and nothing seems to be correcting the problem. I’m only able to stand/walk for an hour a day maximum before the pain is quite severe. I was wondering if acupuncture might help with this issue?
Regards,
Steve
Missed the auto correct misspelling and there’s no edit feature for comments posted. It’s plantar fasciitis.
Steve
Hi Steve,
I have treated people with the same problem you have. Most of them had good results because acupuncture usually helps to reduce all kinds of pain. The effectiveness depends on how severe the problem is, how long it has been, how you can help yourself, and how your body responds to the treatment. But there are no side effects, only a slight sensation when the needles go in.
Please call me at 519 222 5555 to book an appointment if you want to give it a try.

I would like to have some details please
Thank you
Hi Nancy,
Acupuncture can help with infertility issues or help improve chances for pregnancy. The methods and length of the treatment can only be determined from an initial consultation, where I can give patients a detailed diagnosis and treatment plan.
Please give me a call at 519-222-5555 and we can set up an initial consultation.

My husband suffers from Alzheimer’s. Have you had any success using acupuncture for this illness?
Hi Annette,
Thanks for the question.
I do treat people with all kinds of chronic illness including Alzheimer. For most chronic problems, acupuncture and herbs can reduce the symptoms, slow down the progress, but not cure them. I have treated a lady who suffers from Alzheimer for 14 years. Her condition is stable. If your husband has coverage for acupuncture, it doesn’t hurt to try.
Please let me know if you have more questions

I have arthritis in my knee and am a curler, so when I sweep the rock it is painful. I also am experiencing pain from my sciatic nerve on my right side, the pain goes all the way down my leg and into the foot. Will acupuncture help these two issues.
what is the initial cost for a consultation and further treatments, I do not have a drug plan.
Thank you
Hi Teri,
Yes acupuncture helps to reduce all kinds of pain. Although it can not cure the arthritis and degradation, it can help improve the local blood circulation to reduce the inflammation, therefore people who have arthritis and sciatica can live without too much suffering.
The initial consultation is $40, I will give a diagnosis in TCM, a treatment plan, and teach self care methods. The acupuncture session is one hour and the cost is $65.
5 sessions package is $300, 10 sessions is $550.
